The Ontario general election will be held on June 7, 2018. As such, the Dementia Justice Society of Canada, a non-partisan organization, has asked parties the following pre-election platform question: “If elected, how will your government improve the lives of Ontarians with dementia who are in conflict with the criminal justice system (e.g., as accused persons, offenders living in the community, inmates in provincial corrections)?"
On May 20, 2018, we received the Green Party of Ontario's response. A copy of the text is below.

Thank you for giving the Green Party of Ontario an opportunity to speak to the challenges facing people with Dementia across Ontario. I am happy to respond on behalf of the GPO.

If elected, how will your government improve the lives of Ontarians with dementia who are in conflict with the criminal justice system (e.g., as accused persons, offenders living in the community, inmates in provincial corrections)?
The Green Party supports increased investment in our health care system to provide better treatment for people with Dementia.
We are committed to investing $4.1 billion over 4 years, which is an additional $2 billion above the projected increases in the 2018 budget, into mental health services. We also support the continued funding of Ontario’s Dementia Strategy.
We need to ensure dedicated funding for the education and training of health professionals, including physicians and psychotherapists, to expand their scope of practice to include the identification, diagnosis, and treatment of a wider variety of mental health issues.
To better protect citizens who are struggling with Dementia and in conflict with the criminal justice system, we will:
